Akashi is the closest distillery to the coast in Japan. The ocean air is reflected in the whisky’s character. This sweet whisky is born from the traditional Ume-Shu, which means Plum Alcohol. Aged for six months to one year, this whisky is a simple twist on a Japanese classic.
Akashi Ume Plum Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Buttered hot cross buns, chocolate peanuts, lemongrass and a light hint of spicy rye grain.
Palate: Cherry bakewells and walnut loaf. Sweet cereals with a dusting of nutmeg and black pepper.
Finish: Medium length. Quite sweet with dried apricot and a touch of oatcake.

Located just a rock’s skip away from Kobe Bay, Eigashima Shuzo [White Oak] in Akashi is the closest whisky distillery to the coast in Japan. The ocean-laden air is reflected in the whisky’s savory, saline driven purity. The town of Akashi, translated as ‘Sunrise City,’ dates back over 500 years.
