The special blend of aged rums is married and then aged again in a new charred barrel from six to nine months. The additional time in a new barrel gives Cruzan Single Barrel Rum more flavor than would be possible aging in used barrels. The smoky oak, dark fruit and nut flavors are reminiscent of a fine Cognac in character and style.
Cruzan Estate Single Barrel Extra Aged Rum Tasting Notes
Nose: Rich aromas of coconut creme brulee, Bananas Foster, and spiced chocolate nuts.
Palate: Citrus peel and the taste of butterscotch led the way with a gush of dried fruit mixed in.
Finish: Long, evolving finish of cocoa, cigar box, leather, cola nut, and brown spices.
Distillery Information
Cruzan is a Rum producer in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Owned by Beam Suntory, Cruzan was founded in 1760, and lays claim to being “the most honored rum distillery in the world.” For eight generations the distillery has been owned and operated by the Nelthropp family. The Cruzan Rum Distillery (formerly known as Estate Diamond) has been in operation for over 250 years and counting, and they proudly offer tours of the historic estate in Frederiksted.
