What happens when you bring a pit master and master distiller together over a drop of whisky? You get BizarreBQ! It’s a first from Islay-based Ardbeg distillery, with Dr Bill Lumsden and DJ BBQ (aka Christian Stevenson) collaborating to produce this barbecue-inspired single malt. In order to create the meaty, smoky, barbecue sauce profile, the pair combined whisky from three casks: double charred oak casks, toasted Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and barbecue casks (heavily charred casks, custom made using an old-fashioned brazier). And guess what? It’s a perfect whisky perfect pairing for all things barbecued.
Tasting Note
Nose Deliciously smoky, with maple glazed bacon, molasses, and some earthy herbs.
Palate Warming chilli and dried red pepper spice, meaty Maillard reaction, smouldering bonfire, and cinnamon and clove spice.
Finish Smouldering charcoal and spicy biltong.
